“Michael Tighe of Pittsburgh, PA Passes Away – Obituary for Thomas Jefferson High School Class of 2007 Graduate

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael James Tighe, a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, who left us on May 21, 2025, at the age of 35. Born on June 23, 1989, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Michael was a lifelong resident of Jefferson Hills, where he made a lasting impact on all who knew him.

A proud graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School’s Class of 2007, Michael stood out for his academic strength and inquisitive nature. He pursued his passion for technology by earning an associate’s degree in computer drafting from P.T.I. and went on to work as a computer draftsman at Elliot for ten years. Michael’s meticulous work and dedication were a testament to his talent and love for design.

Michael lived boldly, driven by a spirit of adventure and an unwavering determination. Whether tearing through trails on dirt bikes and quads or racing in a go-kart modified to suit his wheelchair, he embraced every opportunity for excitement. Even in the face of physical challenges, Michael never allowed his circumstances to dim his sense of freedom and fun, often cruising on electric scooters with his loyal dog Buster by his side.

Buster wasn’t just a pet—he was a companion, a confidant, and a vital part of Michael’s day-to-day happiness. Their outings, frequently shared with close friends Chris and Puckey, were filled with laughter and unforgettable moments, like the times Buster needed a ride home after too much excitement.

To his family, Michael was more than courageous—he was a hero. His mother, Sandy, shared an especially close bond with him, their connection often described as “two peas in a pod.” As an uncle, he brought joy and adventure to the life of his nephew Ryan, never missing a chance to inspire and uplift him.

Michael leaves behind a legacy of perseverance, warmth, and love. He is survived by his devoted parents, James “Jim” and Sandy Tighe; his sister, Kelly (Rob) Lips; his brother, Sean Tighe; and his cherished nephew, Ryan. His memory will also be carried on by countless aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who were fortunate to know him.

A celebration of Michael’s life will take place on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m., followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. A private burial will be held at a later time.
